It’s December, the new year is only weeks away, and I’m already thinking about the pieces that will carry me into 2026. The puzzle is always the same: finding items that a) fit my budget, b) still feel modern enough to refresh my wardrobe without abandoning the staples I love. As the designated shopping expert in my friendship group, I’m used to the flurry of “What should I buy for next year?” Naturally, I turned to the three destinations that never let me down.

First up, COS. The brand has delivered one of its strongest seasons yet, with pure cashmere knits, beautifully tailored coats and merino layers that feel effortlessly elevated. The accessories have been exceptional too—always managing to land that sweet spot between directional and wearable, premium-feeling but still fair in price. Then there’s Zara (of course). Its recent collections have been consistently impressive, from sharp denim to sumptuous knitwear and the personalised bags everyone is talking about. It feels like every drop has at least one piece that becomes an instant add-to-basket. And finally, the most budget-friendly hero of the three: H&M. The brand’s new Christmas arrivals include polished coats, expensive-looking boots and some of its best high street knitwear I’ve seen this.
