Regardless of where you’re from, Uggs were the teenage footwear of choice for the longest time. Growing up in Boston, a certain widespread “outfit formula” is etched into my brain: a Dunkin’ Donuts drink, a Coach purse, and Uggs—the holy trinity of middle-and high-schoolers across the city.

An L.A. stereotype—made famous by early 2000s paparazzi shots of Paris Hilton and the Olsen twins—was Uggs paired with sweatpants or yoga pants. It’s also a look now making a comeback on celebrities like Addison Rae and Lily-Rose Depp. After all, it’s the ideal chihuahua-walking outfit in California. I hadn’t worn Uggs since leaving my hometown, and for a long time, I assumed I never would again.
